On Tuesday 23 July, Ed Orszulak and Sebastian Boehm, will begin a 2,720km walk from Brisbane to Melbourne to raise funds for Camp Quality. Ed hopes to raise $250,000 for kids and their families facing the trauma of a cancer diagnosis.
EDS Big, Big, Big Walk for Little Kids will see him walk on average 40km a day for 70 days. He will cross the finish line in Melbourne on Monday 30 September.
“I’ve been a volunteer with Camp Quality for 11 years now. A friend suggested it would be a good thing to do. He told me that it was a great organisation to be involved in, and he was right,” says Ed.
“No child should have to go through what these kids do. Camp Quality is such a brilliant charity. So often these kids and families live in hospitals going through treatment for months at a time. Camp Quality gives them the chance to make memories outside the hospital and to just be a family. I’m so excited to be able to support them and to take on this challenge. I know it won’t be easy, but it’s nothing compared to what these families go through.”
Ed’s Big, Big, Big Walk for Little Kids will help kids like two-year-old Tilly, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). After months of gruelling treatment, she was able to go away on her first Camp Quality Family Camp.
“It was amazing. Everyone has gone through the same thing, and everyone understands and is in the same position. The volunteers were incredible. They really catered to all the kids,” says mum, Tammy.
Camp Quality CEO, Deborah Thomas says: “Ed’s Big, Big, Big Walk for Little Kids is a huge undertaking by an extremely dedicated Camp Quality supporter. Ed’s passion for supporting kids and their families going through their darkest days is so inspiring. We’re thrilled to be able to help him achieve this extraordinary physical and mental challenge and be with him every step of the way as we are for all Aussie kids facing cancer.”
Everyday Australians can support Ed in his adventure by donating to his Camp Quality fundraising page. If they want to take their support one step further, they can sign up for their very own Big Walk for Little Kids and fundraise for kids facing cancer.
